7 Brilliant and Easy Plant Care Tips

    5/4/2022

The benefits of having indoor and outdoor plants in your home are endless. They improve your air quality and taking care of them boosts your mood and helps you stay healthy.  However, it's not easy being a plant parent. Plants need regular care and maintenance to thrive, and mistakes can turn costly. A healthy plant care routine can rule out possible problems and make plant care easier.
Here are some tips to help make your plant care routine a breeze.

Feel the soil to know the watering frequency

The water requirements of potted plants are different from plants on the ground.  So you need to check the soil in the pots to determine whether the plants need watering. The best way to check is to look at the first few inches of the soil.  If it is dry, you need to water your pots immediately.

Better to under-water than overwater your plants

If you under-water your plant for a few days, it can still survive and start to grow as you water it again correctly. However, if you keep overwatering your plant, the roots may rot, and you will have to remove the rotten roots and repot the plant to save it.

    Plants require stability

One of the benefits of having potted plants in your home is the ability to move them around. However, you need to remember that plants like a stable environment. The light, temperature, and soil need to remain stable for them to survive. Changing the location of your plants must be done only when necessary.

    Pruning is essential

Most people think that pruning is something you need to do only for trees. However, it is not true. Small plants and shrubs in your garden, as well as potted plants, all require proper pruning. Removing dead branches and dying leaves helps your plants grow faster and remain healthy.  You can also ask for help from certified arborists in NH to help you prune your plants and trees.

    Ensure pots have proper drainage

Drainage holes in the pots allow excess water in the pot to drain off, preventing roots from getting damaged. However, sometimes the holes get blocked due to dirt and stones in the soil. So you need to check at regular intervals whether the excess water is draining off efficiently.

    Check the leaves

Leaves are often good indicators of your plant's health. Healthy plants have green and undamaged leaves. While plants with diseases or pest infestations have yellowish, brownish leaves with holes or breakage, along with other health problems.  You can add suitable fertilizers that can help your plant get healthy. However, you may have to use pesticides if the problem is pest infestation.

Most plants thrive in high humidity

If you have a lot of indoor plants, it is a good idea to invest in a humidifier for your home. Most homes have dry air, especially during winters and dry weather. Plants thrive in humidity, and a humidifier can help create the right environment.
